Indonesian Study Tour Summer Camp at NCG Came to Successful Conclusion 

The "NCG Study Tour for the World" Chinese Study Tour Summer Camp hosted by the School of Foreign Languages came to a successful conclusion recently. 34 teachers and students from Elyon Christian School in Surabaya, Indonesia, enthusiastically participated in this tour. The 13-day summer camp aims to provide an immersive platform for students to learn Chinese and experience Chinese culture. Through on-the-spot learning and traveling, the Indonesian students will improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and at the same time gain an in-depth understanding to Chinese language, culture and society.

The opening ceremony of the summer camp was held in the First Conference Room of the new Multiple-use Building. Professor Ding Jianxin, doctoral supervisor of Sun Yat-sen University and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, delivered a welcome speech to the teachers and students from Indonesia. Prof. Ding Jianxin first pointed out that the historical origin of the China-Indonesia ties shall be traced back to Zheng He's seven trips to the West 600 years ago. And in recent years, with the proposal and implementation of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the cooperative relationship between China and Indonesia in various fields has been further deepened. NCG welcomes and expects Indonesian students to come to China for a journey, truly feeling the development of China and the achievements of exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields. At the same time, he also hoped that the students could learn Chinese well, use their own efforts to share with the world "stories of China and Indonesia", promote and deepen the friendship between the two schools and even the two nations. Immediately afterwards, Ms. Hou Xiaojuan, Director of the Chinese Department of Elyon Christian School expressed her gratitude to NCG, fully affirmed the continuous and stable dispatch of excellent Chinese teachers by NCG over the years, and hoped to continue to maintain a good cooperative relationship and jointly support the development of international Chinese education.

Rich language courses were interesting and practical, the creative cultural experience was a colorful feast that resonated with the soul. Students from the major of International Chinese Teaching and English participated in each carefully planned session together with Indonesian teachers and students. The summer camp also led Indonesian students out of the campus for an immersive field trip. On the bank of the Pearl River, climb to the top of the Canton Tower to appreciate the flower-like city; They stepped into the Guangdong Provincial Museum, had a touch with cultural relics across time and space, and had felt the brilliance and vastness of Chinese civilization; Into the mountain orchards away from the hustle and bustle of the world, they listened to the rustle of the wind through the trees, looked forward to the embrace with nature, and experienced the leisurely fun of picking.

The final report of the summer camp was held in the Lecture Hall of the Library. Cheng Aimin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, summarized the camp and gave full expectations to the future cooperation between the two sides. Teacher and student representatives from the Indonesian side made speeches, saying that the study tour was fruitful, fulfilling and meaningful. Dr. Zhao Yi, Assistant Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, accepted gifts from the parents of the Indonesian students on behalf of the School. Secretary Cheng Aimin and Dr. Liu Yueyi, Head of the Department of International Chinese Teaching, presented certificates to all Indonesian students who participated in the summer camp. Students from the two schools provided stylish performance at last, injecting vitalities to the closing activities.

The two schools had established a cooperative relationship since 2015. And by the end of 2023, nearly 160 NCG students have served as Chinese teachers online and offline, engaged in the exchange and promotion of Chinese languages and cultures in Indonesia. This Chinese study tour summer camp is the first activity for international friends into NCG, and also the first summer camp with the theme of immersive Chinese learning, which marks a new journey in the field of international Chinese education and cultural exchanges.
