Kevin Geoghegan, the Vice President, Luo Chi, the Global Student Mobility Manager (Greater China & Mongolia) and Mao Zeliang, China Office Manager, Global Engagement Office of Griffith College visited Nanfang College, Guangzhou on April 17th. Professor Liu Wenbin, Vice President of NCG warmly received the guests in the Expert Building, where the two sides had an in-depth and fruitful discussion on the cooperation in running education projects. Associate Professor Min Hu, Deputy Dean of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chai Jin, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and other relevant faculties attended the meeting.
Vice President Liu Wenbin reviewed the past amiable cooperation between the two sides and highly affirmed the steady progress made in the cooperative education projects at the meeting. He pointed out that the two sides should further strengthen cooperation in the fields of education internationalization, discipline construction and talents training, deeply explore and integrate the respective resource advantages, and jointly inject new vitality into the mutual exchanges and collaboration. This year NCG will actively promote more students to understand and participate in Ireland program to cultivate students' international vision, enhance their power in employment and further study, in turn making clear their direction of future development.
Vice President Kevin Geoghegan elaborated on the recent progress of Griffith College's cooperative programs and stressed the importance of improving students' English proficiency for further study and job opportunities. He stated that Ireland, as an optimistic and open country, has Europe and the world's leading higher education system and career development prospects. It is expected that the two universities can further deepen cooperation and jointly promote internationalization to a new level.
The two sides discussed intensively during the meetings on enhancing the core status of English courses in cooperation projects and optimizing teaching methods, such as setting up IELTS teaching system in line with international standards, hiring experienced IELTS examiners as English teachers to better meet the actual needs of students, etc. In addition, the two sides faithfully exchanged ideas on future cooperation, including launching bilateral academic exchange activities and master's degree cooperation programs.
The two sides exchanged gifts and took photos after the meeting. This visit has strengthened the confidence of the two schools in terms of future cooperation. Both sides expressed their willingness to jointly promote the educational internationalization on the solid foundation of previous China-Ireland cooperation programs, contributing to the cultivation of outstanding talents with international vision and competitiveness.
In the afternoon, nearly 100 students from the China-Ireland cooperation programs gathered in Room 101 of B1 Teaching Building to listen to Vice President Kevin Geoghegan's splendid lecture on promoting Griffith College. The lecture has not only comprehensively demonstrated key information of Griffith College including its strength, education quality, study life and average salary of graduates, but also emphasized the importance of improving English skills against the backdrop of overseas study. Warm and harmonious was the atmosphere on-site, where the students actively interacted and asked questions. Vice President Kevin Geoghegan and his team patiently answered questions and provided detailed guidance and advice.
The activity also received the participation and support from relevant faculties including Min Hu, Vice president of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Li Xiaoqian, project specialist of the China-Ireland cooperation programs and Chai Jin, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, reflecting the crucial importance attached on China-Ireland cooperation programs.
This lecture has not only deepened the students' understanding to Griffith College, but also further stimulated their enthusiasm and confidence to study in Ireland. With the joint efforts from both sides, the international exchanges and cooperation on schooling between the two colleges will bound to achieve more fruitful results.
