April 23, 2025 – Nanfang College, Guangzhou (NCG) hosted the second installment of its "Educator Empowerment" Faculty Development Lecture Series under the theme "AI-Powered Curriculum Development." Held at the Yuekong Multifunctional Hall (Teaching Building 6, Room 106), the event convened over 100 faculty members to explore cutting-edge strategies for integrating artificial intelligence into pedagogy. The session was organized by the Academic Affairs Office and chaired by its Director, Ms. Zhong Xiaoying, with Professor Xie Youru from South China Normal University as the keynote speaker.
Opening Remarks: Embracing Digital Transformation
In her opening address, Director Zhong Xiaoying framed the event within China’s national agenda for educational digitization:
"Artificial intelligence is no longer a supplementary tool—it is reshaping the DNA of modern education. At NCG, we aim to harness AI not merely to optimize lesson plans, but to redefine how students engage with knowledge, develop critical thinking, and solve real-world challenges."
She emphasized three strategic priorities:
1.Quality Enhancement: Leverage AI to personalize learning pathways and assess competencies dynamically.
2.Faculty Upskilling: Equip educators with AI literacy to bridge technological and pedagogical expertise.
3.Future-Proofing: Align curriculum design with emerging industries’ demands in the Greater Bay Area.

Keynote Insights: Designing Intelligent Curricula
Professor Xie Youru, the nationally recognized authority on educational technology, delivered a comprehensive framework and real cases studies underpinning AI-integrated curriculum development:
Core Principles of Intelligent Curriculum Design
• Goal Alignment: Map learning objectives to AI-driven competency benchmarks.
• Content Modularization: Deconstruct traditional syllabi into adaptive, stackable micro-modules.
• Activity Orchestration: Deploy AI tools for interactive simulations and collaborative problem-solving.
• Evaluation Innovation: Implement real-time analytics for formative and summative assessments.

Interactive Workshop: From Theory to Practice
The Q&A session sparked dynamic exchanges. Professor Xie concluded with a challenge:"Reimagine your role: from knowledge transmitter to learning architect. Master AI tools, but never let them dilute the human connection at education’s core."
Moving forward, NCG is set to fast-track its digital education initiatives, fine-tune its teacher training programs, and empower faculty members. These efforts are expected to drive the cultivation of the next generation of applied talents.
