"Setting Sail": School of Literature and Media Launches 2025 Graduation Exhibition and Teaching Achievements Showcase

April 15, 2025 – The School of Literature and Media at Nanfang College Guangzhou (NCG) unveiled its 2025 Graduation Design Exhibition and Teaching Achievements Showcase with the theme “Setting Sail” at the auditorium of the Multiple-use Building. The opening ceremony drew over 100 attendees, including NCG President Tang Tao (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Party Secretary Li Jianchao, Professor Sun Li (Dean of the School of Literature and Media), department heads, faculty, and students. The event was co-hosted by faculty members Wu Jiaqi and Liu Haonan.

President Tang Tao opened with gratitude for the organizers and congratulations to graduates. He reflected on the symbolism of the theme “Setting Sail”:

“It represents your journey as navigators of idealism across the boundless ocean of knowledge, steering toward diverse horizons. In the AI era, the fusion of mathematical logic and artistic sensibility holds limitless potential for innovation.” He urged graduates to explore interdisciplinary synergies among humanities, arts, and technology, empowering themselves to contribute to societal progress.

Dean Sun Li emphasized the school’s commitment to evolving with technological advancements:

“To prepare students for the AI-driven world, we are redefining our pedagogy in literature, journalism, and digital media. This exhibition showcases two years of transformative outcomes—from AI-powered apps and virtual spaces to data mining and human-computer interaction.” He expressed optimism for breakthroughs in talent cultivation as the school embraces AI’s transformative role.

Exhibition Highlights

The showcase features cutting-edge student projects spanning:

AI-Integrated Applications: Mini-programs and interactive platforms.

Virtual Environments: Immersive digital spaces exploring narrative and connectivity.

Data-Driven Innovations: Tools for journalism and media analytics.

Human-Machine Collaboration: Dialogic systems bridging creativity and technology.

Renowned for its forward-thinking curriculum, the school prioritizes interdisciplinary learning, digital literacy, and cultural preservation. Its programs in Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism, and Network and New Media are designed to equip students with the skills to thrive in the AI era while honoring humanistic values.

The ceremony commenced with a graceful Taiji Five-Step Boxing performance by faculty and students, blending tradition with modernity.

Dean Sun Li then officially declared the exhibition open. Attendees joined the ceremonial launch, symbolizing the official embarkation of “Setting Sail” toward a future brimming with possibilities.

The exhibition, titled "Setting Sail”, was conceptualized by Associate Professor Tang Ke from the School of Literature and Media. The phrase draws inspiration from The Book of Changes: "Hollowing wood to craft vessels and shaping timber into oars, boats and paddles serve to traverse the untraversable, extending benefits to all under heaven." Centered on the AI era, the exhibition explores the wisdom of "Setting Sail" through four thematic sections: "Uncharted Waters (Prudence)", "Breaking New Ground (Evolution)", "Shared Voyage (Collaboration)", and "Realizing Visions (Achievement)". It presents multifaceted perspectives—from AI's ongoing advancement to future human-machine synergy, and from ethical considerations to civilizational frameworks—demonstrating the students' acute observations of our times. Running through April 22 across the first three floors of the Multiple-use Building, the showcase invites campus communities and public visitors to experience the confluence of technology and humanities, observing young innovators setting sail toward tomorrow's horizons.
