The school badge is an important symbol of a school. Nanfang College of Sun Yat-Sen University is in a critical period of deepening reform and innovation. Before the tenth anniversary of the founding of the school, in order to promote its image, ideals, and reputation in the society, we collected designs through open competition, solicited opinions from teachers, students and experts through online voting, before deciding on the school badge with approval from the President’s Office and the Party Secretary Office.
The new school badge, designed by a team of teachers and students from the School of Art Design and Creative Industry, presents the image of the building complex comprising the administration building and the library. It visualizes the central axis of the Nanfang College in a simplified but refined form. It has been hailed as the iconic image that best symbolizes the college and is most widely recognized by its alumni. The layout and composition of the badge is a deliberate replication of that of Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) to manifest the college’s kinship to SYSU. Particularly, the Chinese characters are taken from Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s handwriting, while the English characters style in the Swiss721 font; and the dominant color maroon, which is both calm and warm, reflects Nanfangers’ constant pursuit of truth and unwavering spirit of progress.
