Accounting School

    1. About the School

The Accounting School, formerly known as the Department of Accounting, was established in September 2009 and was upgraded to the Accounting School in April 2016. The School comprises three departments: the Department of Accounting, the Department of Finance and the Department of Auditing, offering five major programs (directions): Accounting, Accounting (ACCA), Financial Management, Financial Management (CIMA), and Auditing. Among them, Accounting is the key specialty of Nanfang College, and Financial Management is among the first batch of characteristic majors set up by Nanfang College, Auditing is jointly established with Guangzhou Institute of Internal Audit. Currently the Accounting School has 3,397 students.


Our school actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation by continuously promoting the reform of the talent training model. It has established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 10 universities or organizations in the United States, Britain, France, Australia, Canada and other countries, providing students with the opportunities to study abroad through the "2+2" program, "3+1.5" program, "3+ 1+0.5” program, ACCA fast track, holiday study tours, exchange programs, gradually forming a unique talent development system. Meanwhile, it is committed to reforming and innovating its teaching comprehensively so as to cultivate high quality and inter-disciplinary talents, promote teaching with scientific research and achieve higher levels of education.


The School takes pride in the achievement of its staff in their high-quality research output. To date, our teaching staff have won 3 national research awards, led 17 provincial granted research projects, 30 college granted research projects, and published 5 textbooks. Over the past three years, a total of 54 academic papers have been published in core journals, among which 3 are in SCI, 5 in SSCI, 8 in EI or CSSCI.

 

    2. People

Tan Jinsong,

Honorary Dean, PhD of Management (Accounting), Professor, PhD Supervisor.

Research Interests: Corporate Governance and Independent Director System, Accounting and Financial Issues in Capital Markets.

Professor Tan, who once served as Deputy Dean and Secretary of the Party Committee of SYSU Business School and is currently a Chair Professor at Nanfang College of SYSU, Honorary Dean of the School of Accounting, and an accounting expert with nation-wide reputation. In 2007, he was selected into the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University” of the Ministry of Education. In 2015, he was selected into the “Accounting Experts Training Program” of the Ministry of Finance.


Wei Jianguo,

Executive Dean, Associate Professor, Master’s Supervisor.

Research Interests: Corporate Governance and Risk Management, Internal Control and Auditing.

Professor Wei, who was honored as the Excellent Teacher of South Guangdong is now an independent director of Lingnan Group Holdings Company, Guangdong Xinbao Electrical Appliances Holdings, Guanhao Biotech and Guolin Technology. He has edited more than 10 textbooks and books, published more than 20 academic papers and joined 5 national research projects. Additionally, he has led 10 research projects funded by the Department of Finance of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Audit Office, and joined as co-investigator or principal investigator in more than 30 horizontal research projects.


Zhang Junsheng,

Associate Dean, PhD of management, Associate Professor.

Zhang has (co-)edited 4 textbooks and/or monographs, published nearly 40 academic articles in Chinese and English, and joined 2 national granted research projects.


Dong Chengjie,

Associate Dean, Master of Management Information System, Lecturer.

Research Interests: Accounting Informationization and Internal Control.

Dong has (co-)edited 3 textbooks and/or monographs, published 2 academic articles, and led 8 granted research projects.

 

Zhang Yuan,

Associate Dean, PhD, Lecturer.

Zhang once worked as a senior tax specialist for Ernst & Young.    

To date, she has led 2 provincial granted research projects and published 8 articles.


Wu Yingxin,

PhD in Management, Associate Professor.

Wu has (co-)edited 4 textbooks and/or monographs, and has published more than 20 academic articles. He has joined 6 national granted research projects, and has led more than 10 projects funded by the Department of Finance of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Audit Office. Additionally, he has joined or led more than 10 horizontal research projects.


Wang Zhemin,

PhD, Professor.

Professor Wang is a Chair Professor of Nanfang College and the Director of the International Education Center of the University of Wisconsin.

Before joining us, Wang taught at North Dakota State University and the University of Wisconsin, and has served as chair professor at well-known universities in China, such as SYSU and CUHK. He has won many Stella Teachers’ Awards in America and published 53 academic papers in the world's top academic journals. He has presented in more than forty international academic conferences and published several academic monographs.


Chen Ying,

MA, Lecturer, Head of the Department of Finance, CCPA.

Research Interests: Corporate Finance, Utility of Accounting Information and Information Disclosure, and Corporate Tax Planning.

Chen has been the editor-in-chief for "Financial Management" and other textbooks.

 

Shen Yajuan,

Master of Accounting, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Auditing, Senior Accountant, CCPA, CCTA, Visiting Scholar at SYSU.

Research Interests: Accounting and Auditing Theory & Practice.

Shen has led 2 provincial granted projects and published 11 papers.


Zeng Tao,

MA, Associate Professor, Director of International Cooperation Office, Senior Member of ACCA Fellowship.

Research Interests: Management Accounting and Accounting Information Systems.


Hu Guanghua,

PhD, Assistant Professor, Head of the Teaching and Research Office.

Research Interests: MCDM, Corporate Governance, and Financial Risk Management.

 Hu has published 20 academic papers.


Jin Di,

Master in Accounting, Lecturer, Deputy Director of the Department of Accounting.

Research Interest: Corporate Financing.

Jin has (co-)edited 2 textbooks and/or monographs, and published 2 papers.


Yi Chun,

MA, Lecturer, Deputy Director of the Auditing Department.

Research Interests: Accounting and Cost Accounting.

He has published 2 academic papers.


Jian Yanling,

Bachelor of Accounting, Professor.

Jian has (co-)edited three textbooks and monographs, published more than ten academic papers, and joined one national granted research project, seven provincial granted research projects, and two college granted research projects.

She has (co-)edited 8 textbooks and monographs, published 17 papers in journals like "Modern Economic Science" and "Finance Theory and Practice" and joined two provincial projects.

Qiu Shengxiong,

PhD, Assistant Professor.

Research Interests: Performance Evaluation and Economic Analysis.

Qiu has published 5 academic papers and is an honorary member of Beta Gamma Sigma.


Lin Ziyu,

PhD, Assistant Professor, Honorary Member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Honorary Member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society.

    3. Programs

Accounting: to meet the needs of modern market economy, this program endeavors to cultivate high-quality applied talents with accounting expertise, practical and managerial skills and are able to work for various enterprises and public institutions, transnationals, financial institutions and accounting firms. Additionally, the accounting major offers ACCA courses.

 

Financial Management:this program mainly focuses on corporate finance, cultivating high-quality applied talents who are competent for investment and financing management, financial analysis, financial planning and capital operation in various financial institutions like multinationals and banks, intermediary organizations, government management departments, and various enterprises and public institutions. The financial management major offers CIMA classes and financial management classes. The main courses are: Accounting Principles, Intermediate Financial Accounting, Advanced Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, Accounting (financial) Information Systems, Business Ethics, Financial Statement Analysis, Risk Management and Internal Control, Auditing Principles and Internal Auditing, etc.

  

Auditing: this program mainly trains applied auditing professionals with both solid theoretical foundation and practical auditing skills; who are familiar with auditing and accounting standards and relevant economic regulations, and master modern auditing methods.
